What my Scoliosis Diagnosis age 16 taught me about “being normal”

What have you overcome that’s made you who are today, and how has it shaped the way you live and work?

In this episode of The Time Management Podcast, I share my personal story of being diagnosed with scoliosis age 16, undergoing two major spinal surgeries age 19, and what this journey has taught me about time, resilience, and the pressure to be “normal.” Since June is Scoliosis Awareness Month, it felt like the right time to finally tell my story.

In this episode we talked about:

  • The mindset shift from diagnosis to decision.
  • How scoliosis shaped my life, career, and daily routines.
  • The impact of societal expectations around “fitting in.”
  • The hidden costs of trying to be “normal.”
  • Neurodivergence, inclusion, and the importance of self-advocacy.
  • Practical tips for advocating for your health and your needs.

Homework:

  • What have you overcome that shaped who you are today?
  • What are you not appreciating about yourself right now?
  • Who are you not appreciating for their role in your journey?
